Full Dentures

You’re probably more familiar with complete dentures, which are used to replace all of the teeth in a dental arch. These dentures are usually made of a gum-colored acrylic base containing artificial teeth. The false teeth can be either acrylic or porcelain, depending on the individual patient’s needs. Full dentures are typically held in place using suction or a strong dental adhesive. 

One of the most significant issues with complete dentures is the need to have them adjusted every year or two as the bone structure of your face changes. If dentures are not adjusted, they can begin to slip. One permanent solution for this issue is having dental implants placed to hold the dentures permanently.

Removable Partial Dentures

Removable partial dentures and dental prostheses are often used to replace one or more missing teeth in a dental arch. This denture comprises a plastic or metal framework that fits over your existing gums and teeth with false replacement teeth attached. As the name suggests, these dentures are designed to be removed, allowing patients to take them out for cleaning and maintenance. Depending on the patient’s needs, these dentures can be secured using denture adhesive or unique clasps. 

Full and removable partial dentures can be highly effective restorative solutions for missing teeth. The type of prosthesis needed will often depend on the number of missing teeth a patient needs to replace and the condition of the remaining natural teeth.
