Gums are a very sensitive part of your teeth, so it’s important to give them the attention they deserve. If you don’t take care of your gums, you can run into many different problems such as bone loss and infection.
There are several ways you can keep your gums healthy for life.
Cleaning twice a day:Brushing your teeth at least twice a day is the first thing you should do. By cleaning your teeth, you will be able to remove plaque from your teeth. Afterward, make sure to floss as well. This will help get rid of food particles that are stuck in between your teeth. If you don’t floss, these food particles will get stuck and turn into plaque.
Brushing properly: Not everyone brushes their teeth the same way. It’s important to brush your teeth so that all of the surfaces of your teeth are cleaned. You should also pay attention to the gum line because this is where bacteria will grow.
Cutting out sugary foods: This is a very important step in preventing gum disease from forming. Bacteria feeds on the sugar that’s left over when you eat sugary foods and drinks, so removing these types of food from your diet will decrease the amount of bacteria in your mouth.
Visit a dentist regularly: Visiting a dentist for regular checkups is super important. During your visit, your dentist will be able to tell you how healthy your gums are and tell you what you can do to improve it. If you have gum disease already, they can treat it right away before it gets worse.
If these methods are too difficult or not possible for whatever reason, there are also many gums and mouthwashes on the market today that can help you. Gums with fluoride will be able to strengthen your teeth by adding more calcium and phosphate into your saliva. This process is called demineralization, and it combats the bacteria in your mouth that causes decay.
Mouthwashes usually have the same ingredients as the gums, so it’s a healthy substitute if you can’t brush or floss. You just have to make sure that the mouthwash doesn’t have any additional sugar in it. The last thing you want is for these bacteria to feed on sugar and then attack your teeth.
